This quilt was a custom creation for a friend. Her dear mother-in-law is celebrating her 70th birthday and my friend wanted to get her something special.
In each of the white squares, her children wrote their favourite memory of Grandma (they have been blurred to protect their privacy). Around each written memory is a fabric that represents that child and their uniqueness. Each block is easily visible surrounded by a plain black.
Because Grandma was a school teacher for many years, we chose a fabric with brightly coloured letters that pop against a black background for the back and binding.
The quilt is small enough that it can be easily left on an arm of a couch to enjoy often, but still large enough to cover your lap.
This small quilt was a joy to make. That joy, along with my friends thoughts and love that went into creating the entire piece, will surely make Grandma’s special day, even better.
